OOAK Barbie "Little Magical Witch" part 2: Halloween hat tutorial

Bentrovati amici e followers! Halloween si sta avvicinando e questo post cade proprio al momento giusto! Infatti questa volta voglio condividere con voi il metodo con cui ho realizzato il cappello da strega per la mia OOAK Barbie Sarah, che voi conoscete già come "Little Magical Witch". 

Ecco il cappello da strega di gomma della Mattel, che ha ispirato la mia creazione.

Welcome back friends and followers! Halloween is approaching and this post comes at the right time! In fact, this time I will share with you the method I used to make a witch hat for my OOAK Barbie Sarah, whom you already know as "Little Magical Witch".

Here's the rubber witch hat by Mattel, that inspired my creation.

E questo è il cappello di stoffa che ho realizzato io e che realizzerete anche voi se seguirete i semplici passi del mio tutorial. Che ne dite? E' venuto carino, no? Così stregonesco, ma anche romantico!

And this is the fabric hat that I made and that you'll create, too if you follow the simple steps of my tutorial. What do you think? It's come out cute, hasn't it? So witchy, but also romantic!

Prima di partire con il tutorial, vi racconto con una piccola gif animata come ho sciolto i boccoli a Sarah. Infatti, col cappello pronto, non poteva continuare a portare quegli ingombranti bigodini: era ora di toglierli! (avete notato il vestito riposto sul manichino? Lo posso togliere e mettere a volontà, perché nessun abito che io confeziono è mai incollato alla bambola: il concetto di giocabilità, anche nel collezionismo, per me è importante!)

Before starting the tutorial, I will tell you with a small animated gif how I disbanded Sarah's curls. In fact, her hat ready, she could not continue to carry those bulky curlers: it was time to take them off! (have you noticed the dress pinned on the mannequin? I can remove it and replace it on Sarah at will, because no dress that I sew is ever glued to the doll: the concept of playability, even in Collecting, is important for me!)

Il mio sorridente faccione vi dice: "Ok, la colla per puzzle è l'ideale per fissare le pettinature delle vostre Barbie!"

My big smiling face tells you: "Ok, the puzzle glue is ideal to fix your barbies' hairstyles!"

Infatti assomiglia tantissimo alla colla usata dalla Mattel quando deve fissare pettinature un po' complicate o comunque che devono tenere una certa posa.

As a matter of fact, it is very similar to the glue used by Mattel when they must fix complicated hairstyles, or any hairstyle who needs to take a certain pose.

E' liquida e si stende in modo facile con l'aiuto del pennello e si indurisce in una giornata. La cosa bella è che, se volete, si toglie lavando semplicemente i capelli con l'acqua.

It's liquid and and it spreads easily with the help of a brush and it hardens in a day. The nice thing is that, if you want, you take it away easily just by washing the hair with water.

Voilà! Con i sottili boccoli fissati e il cappello, Sarah si avvia a diventare una vera streghetta!

E adesso torniamo a voi, perché se volete realizzare un cappello come questo per le vostre Barbie, vi basterà seguire passo passo il tutorial che ho realizzato in esclusiva per gli amici del mio blog!

Voilà! With the thin ringlets and hat set, Sarah is poised to become a real little witch! 

And now back to you: if you want to make a hat like this for your Barbie dolls, just follow the step by step tutorial I made exclusively for my blog's friends!

Innanzitutto salvate l'immagine qui sotto e ingranditela con la fotocopiatrice o con un programma di fotoritocco finché avrete un cartamodello le cui dimensioni saranno le stesse che ho scritto io. 

First. save the image below and enlarge it with a photocopier or a photo editing program until you have a pattern whose size will be the same that I wrote.

Prendete un cartoncino leggero, tipo quello dei pacchi di merendine e aiutandovi col cartamodello ritagliate un cerchio, con un buco ovale.

Poi prendete della stoffa, possibilmente elastica, e ritagliate un cerchio leggermente più grande di quello di cartoncino. Io qui l'ho colorata di viola, ma corrisponderebbe alla stoffa nera del cappello di Sarah.

Take a light card, like the one of snack packages and, with the help of the pattern, cut out a circle, with an oval hole. 

Then take the fabric, preferably elastic, and cut out a circle, that has to be slightly larger than the cardboard. Here I've colored the fabric in purple, but it would correspond to the black fabric of Sarah's hat.

Prendete del fil di ferro sottile e create un cerchio che passerà tutto intorno alla base di cartoncino.
Incollate la stoffa aderente al cartoncino,come vedete nel disegno, in modo da bloccare il fil di ferro.

Take a thin iron wire and create a circle that will go all around the base of the card. 
Glue the fabric tight to the card, as you can see in the drawing, in order to secure the wire.

Aiutatevi con delle mollette per incollare fortemente il lembo di stoffa attorno al cartoncino e andate a farvi un giro: dovete aspettare che la colla sia asciutta per continuare!

Help yourself with clips to paste strongly the flap of fabric around the cardboard and then, have a break: you have to wait until the glue is dry to continue!

Quando tutto sarà asciutto la falda del cappello si presenterà così come vedete qui sotto. A questo punto tagliate a croce la stoffa che si vede attraverso il buco.

When everything is dry the brim of the hat will look like this as you can see below. At this point, cross cut the fabric that you see through the hole.

Noi stiamo lavorando sul "sotto" del cappello, cioè la parte a contatto coi capelli. Nascondiamo gli antiestetici lembi incollati sotto, incollando su di essi e sul cartoncino un cerchio di stoffa, lievemente più piccolo del cerchio che abbiamo.

We are working on the part under the hat, which is in contact with the hair. Let's hide the unsightly flaps pasted below, pasting on them and on the cardboard a circle of cloth, slightly smaller than the circle we have.

All'altezza del taglio a croce che abbiamo praticato sulla stoffa viola, pratichiamo uno stesso taglio a croce sulla stoffa rossa.

At the height of the cross-cut that we practiced on the purple cloth, we practice the same cross cut on the red cloth.

Girate la falda del cappello (infatti ora stiamo lavorando sulla parte piatta del cappello da strega) e aprite bene i lembi che si sono formati grazie ai tagli a croce.

Turn the brim of the hat (in fact, we are now working on the flat part of the witch's hat) and open your flaps that were formed due to the cross-cuts.

E' giunto il momento di farci aiutare dalla nostra amica Sarah in questa fase della lavorazione. Coprite la testa della bambola con della pellicola trasparente da cucina e infilatele la falda del cappello. I tagli a croce tenderebbero a sfilarsi, così noi li bloccheremo con la colla vinilica e lasceremo in posa finché questa non si sarà asciugata. Nel frattempo però, potrete dare forma alla falda del cappello grazie al fil di ferro che corre tutt'intorno: un po' ondulato sul davanti e piegato in basso sul retro.

It's time to get help from our friend Sarah at this stage of processing. Cover the doll's head with some plastic wrap and insert the head in the hole of the hat. The cross-cuts tend to slip off, so we'll block them with glue and we'll leave it like this until it has dried. In the meantime, you can give form to the brim of the hat thanks to the wire that runs all around: a little wavy at the front and folded down at the back.

Mentre la colla si asciuga potete dedicarvi alla parte a punta del cappello. Con l'aiuto del cartamodello avrete tagliato una forma che cucita di lato darà un cono. Ricordandovi che stiamo lavorando sulla parte interna del cono e che poi sarà rovesciato, appoggiate un segmento di fil di ferro tra i due lembi che avanzano dopo la cucitura. arricciate le estremità di questo segmento in modo che successivamente non possa bucare la stoffa.

While the glue is drying, you can dedicate to the tip of the hat. With the help of the pattern you will cut a shape. that sewn to the side will give a cone. Remember that we are working on the inside of the cone and then it will be turned inside out. Put a segment of wire between the two flaps which remain after sewing. Curl the ends of this segment, so that later it won't pierce the fabric.

Con una cucitura a mano, bloccate il fil di ferro "a sandwich", tra i lembi dentro i quali l'avevate posizionato. Poi, con molta delicatezza rovesciate il cono di stoffa in modo che il tutto resti dentro e che si veda un semplice cono di stoffa che ha una cucitura all'interno.

With a hand sewing, lock the wire "sandwiched" between the flaps inside which you had placed it. Then, very gently turn the cone inside out, so that all that remains inside and you will see a simple cone of fabric that has a seam on the inside.

Infine con dei punti molto piccoli fissate il cono alla falda del cappello. Nascondete i punti con un nastro o con un cinturino e piegate un po' la punta del cappello grazie al fil di ferro che vi è cucito dentro.

Finally, with very small stitches attach the cone to the brim of the hat. Hide the stitches with a belt or a ribbon and bend a little the tip of the hat thanks to the iron wire that is sewn inside.

Ed eccovi il risultato finale: vi auguro che le vostre streghette siano radiose come la mia Sarah, una volta indossato il tipico cappello da strega di Halloween!

OOAK Barbie: "Little Magical Witch", part 1

E' vero, vi ho fatto aspettare questo post per troppo, "troppissimo" tempo!

Ma vedrete che l'attesa sarà ampiamente ripagata, perché stavolta vi parlerò di bambole OOAK e vi insegnerò a creare un piccolo dettaglio di stile per le vostre dolls oppure - perché no? - per voi stesse!

You waited too long for this post! So I'll repay you with a little tutorial created for you or your dolls!

Che che cos'è una bambola OOAK? Cosa vuole dire OOAK?

What is a OOAK doll? What does OOAK mean?

L'acronimo O.O.A.K. sta per  l'espressione inglese "One Of A Kind" e significa "unico del suo tipo", o meglio: "pezzo unico".

Capirete, quindi, che ci sono molti modi di creare bambole OOAK: dall'intagliarle nel legno al farle di stoffa, dallo smontare e riassemblare bambole pre-esistenti al dare a bambole già diffuse in commercio una nuova identità e un nuovo stile.

Io sono una OOAKer di questo ultimo tipo. (la parola OOAKer non esiste, ma abbiate pietà: scrivere ogni volta"artista di bambole OOAK" è troppo per la mia pigrissima penna!)

Mi diverto a prendere una bambola particolarmente diffusa e amata come Barbie - icona della produzione seriale del giocattolo - e a trasformarla in un irripetibile personaggio della mia fantasia!

OOAK stands for "One Of A Kind". A OOAK doll can be made in wood, with fabric, etc. It can be assembled with pieces of other dolls or it can be a popular plastic doll whom an artist gives a new identity and style to. I am this kind of artist: I turn Barbie dolls into unique characters of my imagination! Welcome to my magical world!

Le immagini sono spesso più eloquenti di mille parole, perciò vi farò tuffare nel mio mondo, mostrandovi come sta nascendo la mia ultima creazione.

Come molte altre bambole create in passato, anche la bambola di cui sto per parlarvi nasce dalla sensazione che sul mercato manchi qualcosa e dalla voglia di colmare quel vuoto con le mie mani.

La molla che ha fatto scattare tutto, stavolta, sono state loro: le Barbie Streghette di Halloween, vendute in Italia allegate al giornalino della famosa fashion doll.
Ce le avete anche voi, eh? Come resistere a quel fascino violetto-rosa-noir che ammicca a soli 9 euro dalla vetrina dell'edicola?

These two cute Halloween Barbies by Mattel inspired my work.

Per essere carine, sono carine, non ci piove. Ma quando una OOAKer sguazza negli ambienti di fashion dolls da un po' si accorge che... si poteva fare di più. Ad esempio, curare la scelta delle stoffe oppure essere più al passo coi tempi: oggi, quando si parla di giovani streghe, vampire, licantrope e ogni altra bella eroina dell'immaginario halloweeniano, si finisce inesorabilmente per parlare di look "Gotico" oppure, ancora meglio, di look "Gothic Lolita".

They look lovely, but I felt I would have styled them differently: more care for detailes and quality. Moreover I would have chosen a trendy gothic look. Or better: a "Gothic Lolita" look.

Una Gothic Lolita è colei che segue il corrispettivo movimento punk giapponese: le ragazze si vestono come bambole europee del 18esimo/19esimo secolo, con un look dark-romantico che mescola i nuovi trend ai pizzi e ai merletti di una volta.

Gothic Lolitas are girls who follow a special Japanese punk movement: they dress like european victorian dolls, mixing a dark romantic look with old-fashioned laces and trims.

Io sono letteralmente affascinata da questo look, soprattutto nelle sue varianti meno lugubri! I soffici sottogonna di tulle, i fiocchi, i pizzi, i boccoli hanno su di me un effetto rasserenante, ma al tempo stesso emozionante: il rincorrersi delle onde sui volants, i gingilli e i dettagli mi incuriosiscono e mi trasportano in un mondo dolcemente surreale.

Lovely style, especially in its less gloomy variants! Ribbons and valances take me in a sweet surreal world. 

I Manga (fumetti) e gli Anime (cartoni animati) giapponesi pullulano di streghine lolite, e a me sarebbe tanto piaciuto vedere questo look su Barbie! Chissà cosa ne pensano le dirette interessate?

Japanese comics and cartoons are full of cute Lolita witches: it would have been nice to see this look on Barbie! What do my two little witch Barbie dolls think about it?

"We, too, would have loved the Gothic Lolita style!" - "Sigh..."

Visto? Anche loro sono d'accordo (he he he!) E' il momento di mettersi all'opera! 

Ho diviso il lavoro fatto fin'ora in 5 punti, così troverete più scorrevole la lettura (o almeno spero: fatemi sapere!).

                               1. SCHIZZI E SCARABOCCHI                              

Come funziona la testa di Macinino Magico quando vuole realizzare qualcosa? Innanzitutto chiara nella mia mente arriva l'immagine dell'outfit: rapidissima, devo prendere carta e penna per fissare questa "visione". E quando sono troppo rapida, ne escono fuori sgorbi incomprensibili come questo, ma che svolgono perfettamente il loro compito di reminder!

1. Sketches' n' roughs. When I'm in the mood to create, a clear image of the outfit appears in my mind and I have to sketch it down rapidly if I don't want to loose it! A bad scribble but a good reminder!

La cosa buffa dei miei schizzi preparatori è che sono assolutamente indicativi: nel corso d'opera cambio talmente tante volte i dettagli del vestito, che alla fine ne esce qualcosa di molto diverso da come l'avevo immaginato all'inizio! Se continuerete a leggere e guardare le foto, ve ne accorgerete subito!

It's very funny because my first scketches are very different from the final result: I change my mind so many times! Follow me and you'll see!

Trovo molto divertente fare prove di come verrà il vestito arrotolando e spillando momentaneamente le stoffe attorno al corpo di Barbie, così ho la sensazione di essere già avanti coi lavori!

                               2. SI INIZIA A CUCIRE!                               

Un conto è arrotolare stoffe intorno alla bambola, un altro è preparare il cartamodello e cucire la varie stoffe, i nastri, i pizzi, il tulle e.... fare tutto per bene! In ogni cucitura c'è tutta la cura possibile e se il modello non è uscito come me lo aspettavo... beh, se proprio non sopporto la sua vista.... mi tocca ritoccarlo oppure rifarlo daccapo! E' stato il caso della gonna, che inizialmente avevo fatto troppo lunga e scampanata, invece che a forma di zuccotto, come la volevo io.

Ecco la gonna prima maniera:

2. Let's start sewing! The "wrapping and pinning" phase is over: now I must draw the pattern, then cut and sew every tiny part with great precision: if I don't like the result, I usually make it again! It happened with this skirt: I didn't like the bell shape you see below: I wanted a pumpkin shape!

Oppure può succedere che, dopo aver cucito delle mutandine con pizzi svolazzanti e cucito al rovescio le tipiche calze da strega bianche e nere, sicurissima che una volta rigirate sarebbero state dello stesso colore dell'abito.... ehm... ehm... ti accorgi inesorabilmente che quel colore non è nero ma...

Another thing that might happen is this: being sure the stripes are black, until you roll the stockings inside out and you discover that... THEY'RE BLUE !!

Come si dice in questi casi? "The show must go on!" Ovvero, "MAci, rimboccati le maniche e ricuci un altro paio di calze, stavolta usando la stessa identica stoffa dell'abito!"

But "the show must go on"! That's to say: "MAci, you'll have to sew another pair of stocking with the same striped fabric of the dress, this time!"

           3. "INCOLLARE E' FACILE, SE SAI COME FARLO"           

Tra i "MUST" e i "MUSTN'T" ("si deve" e "non si deve") di Macinino Magico ci sono alcuni tabù sulla colla. Non la uso MAI se è possibile cucire. 

Però c'è un dettaglio di questo abito che proprio non può farne a meno, anzi che DEVE assolutamente avvalersi della colla per riuscire così preciso, levigato e - diciamolo, perché no? - SEXY: è il bustino di cartapesta, detto ormai da molti miei amici e follower "MAci-bustino"! (Grazie!)

3. "To glue is easy, if you know how to do it". I never glue anything where it's possible to sew!

Ed eccolo qua, mentre ci stavo lavorando con pazienza e precisione.

Si, d'accordo, ogni tanto, qualche parolaccia mi scappava (soprattutto quando dovevo cucire gli occhielli tutti alla stessa altezza) ma vi assicuro: niente che potesse offendere le delicate orecchie di Barbie! :-D

But for the sexy "MAci-corset" (thanks to my friends and followers who gave it this nickname!), glueing with patience and skill is necessary. 

                               4. L'AVVENTURA DEL REPAINT                               

Questa è la mia fase preferita, quella che mi dà i brividi come se fossi su un otto volante!

Per me, ridipingere il volto di Barbie, significa veramente darle un nuovo carattere, riscrivere il suo destino e "renderla viva" esattamente come fa uno scrittore con i suoi personaggi.

Per motivi di ordine logico, ho spostato la fase del repaint al terzo posto, ma, in realtà, è la cosa che faccio per seconda, insieme all'acconciatura.

4. The repaint adventure. This is the phase that excites me the most! For me, rapainting a Barbie's face means giving her a new personality, a new life, exactly the same thing that a writer does with their characters.

Piccolo momento pubblicitario: vi ricordo che al termine di questo post ci sarà un tutorial per imparare a creare un dettaglio, che, se fatto bene, aggiungerà valore a tutte le vostre bambole! E non solo!

Little ad: in the small tutorial I'll teach you how to create a valuable detail for your dolls or accessories!

Avevo rerootato questa testina e scolorito il face-up originale tanto tempo fa, ma non avevo bene in mente che tipo di personaggio creare: la povera bambola è rimasta così per circa due anni, prima diventare la mia streghina lolita!

My "Top Secret" diary says: I always choose to repaint lovely faces, because the stress of painting such precise little face, requires a sweet dolly smile as a reward!

Dopo l'iniziale momento di "panico da foglio bianco", ecco che dalle prime pennellate si inizia ad intravvedere qualcosa!

I always panic in front of a clear face, like it was my first time with repainting!

Sì, d'accordo. Per i non addetti ai lavori, questa piccola sembra ancora una via di mezzo tra una zombie e un'aliena, ma... credetemi: per me, quando l'occhio destro è grande quanto il sinistro e le iridi guardano nella stessa direzione, è un gran traguardo.

A zombie? An Alien? For me it's just a victory: the eyes are the same size!

Adesso il gioco si fa davvero emozionante: ogni pennellata porterà un po' di umanità su questo volto e vederlo apparire tra le mie mani sarà come una magia!

A kind of magic: with every touch of brush, I will add more and more life to this face!

La foto qui sopra l'ho scattata col telefonino e col flash! Quindi, qualità pessima: chiedo venia! Ma comunque è valida per mostrarvi come, piano piano, pazientemente e per gradi, l'espressione del viso prenda vita.

Ed eccola qui, finalmente col suo nuovo viso! Sono davvero soddisfatta del suo musino: forse è il repaint più preciso che io abbia fatto finora nella mia carriera di OOAKer.  Sono contenta di essere riuscita a rimpicciolire il sorriso smagliante dell' head-mold di base: le teste Superstar tendono a sorridere un po' troppo, a volte!

The face is ready! I'm so satisfied with her lovely look! Maybe my best repainting ever! And I'm happy with the little mouth: Superstar head-molds can be smiling too much!

Quei "rotolini" che vedete ai lati del viso sono due bigodini: trattando i capelli sintetici 

con acqua bollente e fredda, si riesce a far loro prendere la forma che si vuole.
The paper rolls at the sides of the face are curlers!

Quando il viso è completato (manca solo il blush sulle guance), mi succede una cosa particolare: la bambola "mi suggerisce il suo nome". Anche se avessi già avuto un nome perfetto per lei, non ci sarebbe stato nulla da fare. Quando finalmente posso vedere il suo volto, un nuovo nome si stampa nella mia mente e capisco che è quello giusto. Nel suo caso è stato "Sarah" e trovo che le si addica moltissimo!

Mi succede lo stesso anche con le bambole che compro: è capitato anche a voi?

When a face is ready, a name for the doll pops in my mind authomatically, like she had suggested it! This goes for the dolls I buy, too. Did it ever happen to you? By the way: she chose the name "Sarah".

                     5. ABRACADABRA! ED ECCO IL VESTITO                     

Con la gonna rossa accorciata e il sopragonna arricciato, finalmente sono soddisfatta. I primi "strati" del vestito sono stati realizzati e adesso posso sbizzarrirmi con la fantasia!

5. Abracadabra! And here's the outfit! I shortened the skirt and ruffled a striped layer: now I can play with my imagination and skill to make this outfit magical!

Al MAci-bustino ho voluto cucire due volants neri di pizzo e ho deciso che quest'abito avrà anche delle maniche corte a palloncino nere e trasparenti. (Tanto le stoffe nere non mi mancano: ne avevo comperate a vagoni!)

Farò le maniche con dello chiffon: le estremità saranno arrotolate e cucite in modo da permettere ad un filo elastico di scorrervi dentro e creare l'arricciatura delle maniche a palloncino.

I'll add short ballooon sleeves in black transparent chiffon: I'm happy to use some of the black fabric I have!

PRENDETE NOTA DI QUESTA SUGGERIMENTO! - Quando lavoro con una stoffa che si sfilaccia, io passo con uno stuzzicadenti un filo di colla vinilica sul bordo: questa colla si asciuga in un attimo e blocca perfettamente lo sfilarsi delle stoffe! 
Ho visto tante belle OOAK, rovinate da vestiti sfilacciati... Se non state cucendo un outfit per una OOAK zingara, fantasma, o sposa cadavere... vi consiglio di bloccare i bordi delle stoffe con questo metodo!

Tornando alle mie maniche nere trasparenti... oooohhh, noooo! Le ho fatte troppo lunghe! Adesso, le dovrò tagliare, accorciare e ricucire! (Non ho mai capito se faccio la OOAKer perché sono una persona paziente, o se sono diventata paziente a forza di fare OOAK...)


In the images below a good method to stop fabric from ravel: a thin layer of glue all along the borders. Back to the sleeves: oh, no! I made them too long! I must retouch them!

Vi ricordate sempre, vero, che alla fine di questo post vi attende (come ricompensa alla vostra pazienza!) un piccolo tutorial? Imparerete a curare un dettaglio che, come gli sfilacci dei vestiti, spesso rovina anche le OOAK più belle... Ho passato il filo elastico tutt'intorno all'estremità della manica e ora è il momento di tirarlo: formiamo un bel palloncino! A proposito: l'arricciatura del pizzo sulla scollatura dietro è nata per caso... e mi piace un sacco!

The elastic string will ruffle the end of the balloon sleeve! By the way: the lace valances on the back were not meant to be there at the beginning: now I love them!

Aggiungere i particolari è sempre molto divertente: ho fatto passare un nastrino sottilissimo negli occhielli del bustino, ho creato - con un metodo speciale che fa venire sempre bene i fiocchi... - dei bei fiocchi che arricchiscono il visual totale e, nella foto qui sopra, sto cucendo del pizzo lungo il bordo inferiore del bustino. Tutto è piccolissimo!

Adding tiny details is so much fun! I love ribbons: I follow a special method that make them be always perfect. Curious? Go on reading and you'll find it out! 

Quando guardo foto come questa qui sopra, mi sento felice! Le maniche a palloncino possono essere lasciate così, oppure aggiungendo i guanti si avrà un effetto maniche-a-palloncino-con-pizzetti: capirete meglio con la prossima foto!

Looking at such picture as the one above, I feel happy! The long sleeves can be added to simulate a lace ending to the balloon sleeves.

Siiii! Anche le calze! Il vestito sta decisamente prendendo forma, ma devo aggiungere ancora tantissimi particolari che lo renderanno DIVERTENTE!

                                               Tutorial: "IL MACI-FIOCCO"                      

Fin dall'età di 4-5 anni abbiamo imparato ad allacciarci le scarpe e a girare occhielli, intrecciare, annodate e tirare perfettamente. Per non parlare poi delle cravatte che molti di noi hanno imparato a stringere perfettamente per se stessi o per i loro mariti e figli.

Tutorial "The MAci-bow": Since our childhood we learnt how to make knots and bows, still...

Eppure vedo ancora tante OOAK che indossano bellissimi vestiti settecenteschi, frutto di mesi di lavoro, e poi... i tanti fiocchi che li adornano sono storti e sofferenti, come se fossero fatti di corsa, all'ultimo momento, come fossero dei particolari "trascurabili".

... I see lots of OOAK Barbies wearing wonderful handmade gowns, that sport, on the contrary, crooked and dreary bows. They look like they were knotted in a big hurry, like they were "neglectable" details.

Il fiocco, al pari di un gioiello, non è affatto trascurabile, perché può arricchire o rovinare un abito inesorabilmente.

The bow is important like a jewel, because it can enrich a gown or ruin it completely.

Io ho studiato e poi inventato dei metodi per creare dei "finti fiocchi" che verranno sempre perfetti e arricchiranno ogni vostra creazione.

I have invented some methods to create "fake bows" that will be always perfect, enriching your every creation.

Seguitemi, vedrete che sarà facile!

Follow me, it will be simple!


 1.  Prendete due nastri dello stesso colore, ma di due altezza diverse: chiameremo il nastro che vedete vicino alla moneta "nastro basso" e l'altro "nastro alto".

1. Take two ribbons of the same color, but two different widths: we will call the ribbon that is near the coin "little ribbon" and the other one "big ribbon".

 2.  Formate col nastro alto un occhiello come quello che vedete nella foto qui sotto.

2. With the big ribbon, form a loop like the one you see in the pic below.

 3.  Nella terza foto ho semplicemente passato l'occhiello dalla mano destra alla mano sinistra, perché con la destra devo prendere la lunghezza del nastro alto...


3. In the third photo I simply passed the loop from the right hand to the left hand, because with the right hand I must take the length of the big ribbon...

 4.  ... e formare un altro occhiello di pari dimensioni che appoggerò sopra al primo come vedete nella foto sottostante.

4. ... and form another loop of the same size, which I will lay upon the first one, as you see in the pic below.

 5.  A questo punto otterrete questa semplice forma, che nella foto qui sotto, apro un pochino per mostrarvi come è fatta. In realtà, già nella fase 4 potreste fermare con una piccola cucitura il centro dell'intersezione e saltare alla fase 6.

5. Now you will obtain this simple shape, that, in the pic below, I'm opening a little to show you how it's made. Actually, already in the step #4, you could stop with a little stitch the center of the intersection and skip to step #6.

 6.  Ora, prendete il nastro basso e passatelo sotto, al centro, proprio dove i due occhielli si intersecano.

6. Now, pick the little ribbon and pass it below, in the middle, just in the point where the two loops cross eachother.

 7.  Stringete il nodo con forza. Adesso vi posso dire che il lato in cui vedete il nodino sarà il dietro del "finto fiocco". Quindi ora stiamo lavorando sul retro del finto fiocco. 

7. Fasten the knot tightly. Now I can tell you that the side in which you see the little knot will be the back of the "fake bow". So, now we are working on the back of the fake bow.

 8.  Quando abbiamo stretto forte, gli occhielli e le gambe del fiocco si sono disposti  tutti sulla stessa linea: adesso, tenendo saldamente il centro, tiriamo giù le gambe, prima una...

8. When we have pulled tightly, the loops and the legs of the bow have all set along the same line: now, holding firmly the center, let's pull the legs down, one first...

 9.  ...poi l'altra. Come vedete, si sta già vedendo la forma di un vero fiocco. Vi ricordo che stiamo lavorando sul dietro, cioè sul lato che sarà cucito sulla vostra creazione e resterà invisibile all'osservatore.

9. ...then, the other. As you can see, the shape of a real bow is already appearing. I remind you, that we are working on the back side, that's to say on the side that will be stitched on your creation and that will remain invisible to the eyes of the observer.

 10.  Tutto bene fin qui? Non è difficile, come vedete. Adesso dovete tagliare le gambine del fiocco della lunghezza desiderata. Vi consiglio di tagliare obliquamente, cosa che riduce lo sfilacciamento delle estremità dei nastri di raso.

11. Is everything alright so far? It's not difficult, you see. Now you must cut the legs of the bow at the desired length. I suggest you to cut slentwise, a choice that reduces the raveling at the ends of the satin ribbon.

 11.  Ora giriamo il finto fiocco e guardiamolo dal davanti. Continuiamo con delicatezza e decisione a muovere in basso le gambine, in modo che si allontanino dagli occhielli e stiano giù.

11. Let's turn the fake bow and let's look at the front side. Let's continue to pull the legs downwards delicately and firmly, in order to take them far from the loops and make them stay down.

 12.  Da questa foto potete vedere come il nostro finto fiocco, dal davanti appaia come un fiocco reale. Passiamo un filo di colla vinilica lungo le estremità tagliate obliquamente: blocchiamo per sempre la possibilità del raso di sfilacciarsi.

12. From this photo, you can see how our fake bow looks like a real one when you look at its front side. Let's pass a thin layer of vinyl glue along the ends that you have cut slentwise: let's prevent for good the ends from raveling. 

 13.  Ora aspettate pochi minuti: la colla vinilica si asciugherà velocemente, diventando trasparente. 

13. Wait for some minutes: the vinyl glue will dry quickly, becoming transparent.

 14.  Lavoriamo nuovamente sul retro del fiocco, quello in cui si vede il nodino. Ora dobbiamo tagliare via le gambine del nastro basso. Lasciamo una lunghezza tale che si possa nascondere dietro gli occhielli del finto fiocco, come sto facendo nella foto qui sotto.

14. Let's work again on the back of the bow, where there's the little knot. We must now cut the little ribbon's legs off. Let's leave a length that we will be able to hide behind the fake bow's loops, as I'm doing in the pic below.

 15.  Prendiamo ago e filo (dello stesso colore del raso, naturalmente) e cuciamo il pezzetto di nastro basso che vediamo più a sinistra, all'occhiello sinistro.

15. Let's pick needle and thread (of the same color of the satin ribbon, naturally) and stitch the little piece of the small ribbon that we see on the left, onto the left loop.

 16.  Anche la gambina sinistra del finto fiocco può essere cucita sull'occhiello sinistro per bloccarla in basso: così il fiocco rimarrà sempre della forma che voi avete deciso.

3. You can stitch also the fake bow's left leg onto the left loop, in order to position it downwards: doing this the bow will always remain the shape you have decided.

 17.  Ripetete la stessa cosa specularmente sulla parte destra del finto fiocco: vi ricordo che cucendo non dovrete mai prendere la parte davanti dell'occhiello: quella è la parte che vedranno tutti e deve rimanere pulita! Ecco come si presenta il dietro del finto fiocco alla fine del lavoro:

17. Repeat the same thing specularly on the right part of the bow: I remind you that when you'll stitch, you'll have to avoid the front part of the loop: that is the part that everybody will see and it must stay clean! Here's the back of the fake bow at the end of the work:

 18.  Finalmente il prodotto finito: in questo caso, ho incollato un brillantino sul "nodo" centrale del finto fiocco e con un filo di colla a caldo l'ho incollato all'orecchino. Da gitano che era, è diventato un orecchino romantico.

18. At last, the final product: in this case I glued a fake small diamond upon the central "knot" and I glued with hot glue the "MAci-bow" onto the earring. From a gipsy to a romantic style.

 19.  Il nostro finto fiocco aggiunge eleganza anche alla pettinatura più semplice! Sono sicura che dopo questo tutorial, non vi accontenterete più di fiocchi fatti di corsa come nella figura a. Per ottenere la precisione della figura b, vi basterà fermare la ciocca con un elastichino e legarci intorno un giro di nastro. Poi, potrete cucirvi sopra il fiocco e il risultato sarà perfetto!

19. Our fake bow adds elegance even to the simpliest hairstyle! I'm sure that after this tutorial, you won't be happy again with imprecise bows as in the pic #a. To obtain the precision of the picture #b, you'll only have to secure the lock with a little elastic band and to roll a bit of a ribbon around it. At the end, you will stitch there upon the fake bow and the result will be perfect!
