Con mia grande sorpresa scoprii l'esistenza delle modelle professioniste per taglie forti e che c'era una branca della moda di tendenza che si occupava delle donne che avrebbero indossato quelle taglie.
Poi scoprii "Plus", la risposta extra large a magazine di alta moda come Marie Claire o Vogue, e vidi abiti glamourous che andavano ben oltre la mia taglia 50: non avevo più bisogno di vestirmi come mia nonna! E mi sentii più bella: potevo essere anche io come le modelle che apparivano in quelle pagine!
In questo post ho scelto di presentarvene solo 5, quelle che mi hanno colpita di più. Seguitemi, ve le faccio conoscere!
I remember the night when my sister called me from the next room, where she was surfing the internet: "You're always complaining about your 'chubby arms' ...," she said, "now, come here and look at this."
To my great surprise I discovered the existence of professional models for large sizes and that there was a branch of trendy fashion that was caring about the women who would wear those sizes.
Then I discovered "Plus", the extra-large answer to haute couture magazines such as Vogue or Marie Claire, and I saw glamorous clothes that were far beyond my size 50 (american size 14): I did not need to dress like my grandmother, anymore! And I felt more beautiful: even I could be like the models that appeared in those pages!
In this post I have chosen to show you only 5 models, those who struck me the most. Follow me, I will introduce them to you!
Rosie Mercado, l'Ape Regina
Devo ammetterlo. La prima volta che vidi una foto di Rosie Mercado rimasi davvero impressionata: credetti in un fotomontaggio.
L'unicità della sua bellezza ti colpisce come uno schiaffo, finché i tuoi occhi e il tuo cervello non si abituano a nuove proporzioni e canoni estetici. Rosie Mercado sfida la regola aurea secondo la quale la proporzione è sinonimo di perfezione.
Questa megalitica dea latino-americana, dal viso radioso e sensuale, è letteralmente osannata dal mondo della "plus size fashion".
E non finisce qui! E' anche simpatica, mamma, filantropa e make-up artist!
E' proprio vero che a qualcuna essere bella non basta!
Rosie Mercado, the Queen Bee I have to admit it. The first time I saw a photo of Rosie Mercado I was really impressed: I believed in a photo-edited work.
The uniqueness of her beauty hits you like a slap, as long as your eyes and your brain don't get used to new proportions and aesthetics. Rosie Mercado challenges the golden rule according to which proportion is synonymous with perfection.
This megalithic Latin American goddess, with a radiant and sensual face, is literally glorified from the world of "plus size fashion".
And it is not all! She's also funny, mom, philanthropist and make-up artist!
It's true that for someone it is not enough just to be beautiful!
Tess Munster, la Pin-Up
Avevo visto una sola foto di Tess Munster, prima di scrivere questo post: era fasciata in un abito nero, tutta seria, con un alto e tiratissimo chignon: insomma, uno strano mix tra la signorina Rottermeier di "Heidi", Moira Orfei e Morticia Addams!
Fortunatamente, si trattava solo di uno strappo alla regola per lei, perché la vera Tess Munster è una gigantesca caramella colorata, pazza e giocosa, che ha firmato linee di moda da pin-up per ragazze plus size e che usa il suo viso e il suo corpo come fossero una grandissima tela su cui dipingere la sua arte a tinte pastello.
I had seen only one picture of Tess Munster, before writing this post: she was wrapped in a black dress, all serious, with a high and super tight chignon: in short, a strange mix between Miss Rottermeier from the cartoon "Heidi", Moira Orfei and Morticia Addams!
Fortunately, that was only an exception to the rule for her, because the real Tess Munster is a giant colored crazy playful candy, who signed pin-up-style fashion lines for plus size girls and she uses her face and body like a huge canvas on which to paint her art in pastel colors. A real merchandising business was born around her and it is selling like hotcakes among her many fans: crowds of men and women who write her that she is beautiful!
Fluvia Lacerda, la Divina
I commenti che si leggono su di lei (su Fluvia Lacerda, non su mia zia!) suonano sempre più o meno così: "Lei sì, che ha classe", "Lei è la mia preferita", "Lei, di qua...", "Lei, di là..." E non è difficile capire perché: Fluvia Lacerda ha un corpo carnoso e pieno, ma estremamente armonioso e sensuale.
Viene scelta per indossare abiti che coprono i suoi punti critici, come ad esempio le grandi cosce, e che esaltano i suoi punti di forza, come il seno e il punto vita. Il suo stile classico la rende affascinante anche in abiti di taglio maschile, non trovate?

She is chosen to wear clothes that cover her critical points, such as the big thighs, and exalt her strengths, such as the breast and the waist. Her classic style makes her look fascinating also in men-style clothes, don't you think so?
Nadia Aboulhosn, la Soldatessa
Sono sicura che sia nata come blogger per poi essere notata dalle firme della moda Plus Size. E come non notarla? Nadia Aboulhosn usa la macchina fotografica come una mitraglietta: sul web ci sono centinaia (o migliaia?) di foto di lei che indossa gli abiti più disparati, anche quelli che le stanno palesemente male! E che mettono in luce tutti i suoi punti critici...
Ma lei, impassibile, ieratica, fissa l'obiettivo e sembra dirti: "Guarda, che questa è una cosa seria. Io sono una vera professionista. Devo essere pronta a tutto."
Di fronte al suo sguardo da "soldatessa della moda", dobbiamo alla fine arrenderci al fatto che ogni abito può essere indossato anche da una curvy girl che abbia una forte personalità.
Ma davvero Nadia Aboulhosn è sempre così seria? Vi sfido a trovare sul web quelle sue rare foto in cui sfoggia il suo splendido, solare sorriso!
I'm sure she had a start as a blogger, to be then noticed by the Plus-Size-fashion stylists. And how could they miss her? Nadia Aboulhosn uses her camera like a machine gun: on the web there are hundreds (or thousands?) of pics of her wearing the clothes the most diverse, even those that look blatantly wrong on her! And that highlight all her critical points ...
But she, unmoved, hieratic, stares into the camera and seems to say: "Look, this is a serious matter. I am a true professional. I have to be ready for anything."
In front of her "soldier-of-fashion look", we must eventually surrender to the fact that every dress can be worn also by a curvy girl who has a strong personality.
But, is really Nadia Aboulhosn always so serious? I challenge you to find on web those rare pictures where she shows her gorgeous, sunny smile!
Tara Lynn - "The Body"
Voglio chiudere questo excursus con una modella che ha rivoluzionato il mondo della moda tradizionale: il suo corpo è stato riconosciuto talmente bello da stilisti e fotografi, da essere addirittura soprannominata "The Body", che significa, appunto, "Il Corpo".
Tara Lynn (come poche altre, tra cui Fluvia Lacerda) ce l'ha fatta ad uscire dai magazine di nicchia, per approdare, con la sua taglia 48-50, tra le pagine di grandi riviste di moda come Vogue e Elle, in cui le modelle indossano, mediamente, una taglia 38.
Tara Lynn dovrebbe, col suo lavoro, mostrare ABITI - e infatti, addosso le stanno magnificamente - ma i fotografi amano talmente tanto i suoi rotolini e le sue forme piene, che posa più spesso nuda che vestita!

Tara Lynn managed to break out of niche magazines (with few others as Fluvia Lacerda, for example), to arrive with hes size 48/50 (12/14 american size) between the pages of the major fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle, in which the models are wearing, on average, a size 38 (USA size 2).
Tara Lynn, through her work, is supposed to show OUTFITS - and in fact, they look beautifully on her- but the photographers love her rolls on the hips and her full forms so much, that she more often poses in the nude than wearing clothes!

Io ricordo sempre che per me essere "plus size" non è uno stile di vita. La salute e la comodità di un corpo più leggero sono sempre da preferire, ma non vedo perché non si possa essere belle anche quando ci si ritrova con qualche chilo in più.

I always remember that for me to be "plus size" is not a way of life. The health and comfort of a lighter body are always to prefer, but I don't see the reason why we cannot be beautiful even when we find ourselves with a few extra pounds.
